Reflexology is an alternative health therapy that works by stimulating the nerve endings in the hands and feet with a pressure technique. This stimulation creates a reflex response that affects corresponding organs, glands and tissues of the body.
Reflexology practices something called zone therapy.
Zone therapy is the understanding that zones throughout our body have an organized relationship between all of the different tissues and organs. As a result, some conditions such as digestion issues, sinus pressure, hormone imbalances and much more can improve.
This is an ancient practice that has been used to address certain ailments of the body in many different cultures. The idea of stimulating these points, on the hands and feet, to affect other areas of the body is similar to that of acupuncture ,in the fact that the body has a natural ability to heal under a proper frequency and energy.
When the body is blocked by either inflammation or an imbalance, reflexology can help clear it out. Our bodies are amazing machines that work in ways that science still has not been able to explain. These alternative therapies have helped many people with a variety of conditions.
There was even a study in Korea around 2004 showing that reflexology improved systolic blood pressure and triglyceride numbers (Park HS, 2004). It is important to note that reflexology is not used for specific conditions but rather a general practice that can benefit the body as a whole including symptoms that may be present.
The additional benefits of reflexology are:
- Relaxation with the removal of stress
- Enhanced circulation
- Normalize metabolisms
- Healing and regaining body balance.
